Guidelines

The James Ford Bell Foundation is a private grant making organization. A high priority is given to projects with historical connections to the Bell Family, including the James Ford Bell Library, the James Ford Bell Museum of Natural History, the Delta Waterfowl Foundation, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Belwin and related programs.

** NOTICE** At their July 18, 2000 Strategic Planning Conference, The Trustees of the James Ford Bell Foundation established new policies affecting grantmaking for the near future. All of the Foundation's grantmaking in the areas of education, the environment and the arts will be dedicated to those core programs and institutions that are a part of the legacy of the Bell Family and the James Ford Bell Foundation. These organizations include the James Ford Bell Museum of Natural History, the James Ford Bell Library, Delta Waterfowl Foundation and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. All of the Foundation's grantmaking in the health and human service area will be directed to its Central Neighborhood Initiative.

The Trustees and staff will devote their time and talent to the success of a highly focused grantmaking program in education, the environment, health and human services and the arts in an effort to increase the Foundation's effectiveness and its impact in our community.

The Trustees may also solicit proposals in the following areas:

The Environment—Programs addressing environmental preservation and education. Programs which address the problems of over population and the related environmental impact.

The Arts—Programs of historic interest to the Foundation which strengthen arts organizations in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Social Services—Programs which address social service needs in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, especially those which emphasize prevention and self sufficiency.

Education—Programs consistent with the major areas of interest of the James Ford Bell Foundation.
