FPA was founded in 1999 by Diane Neimann. In 2008, Teresa Bonner and long-term FPA employee Ellen George acquired the firm.

Ellen George is a Principal in Family Philanthropy Advisors, overseeing the financial and administrative management of FPA as well as offering consultative services to its clients. Ellen has expertise in wealth management, next generation training, intergenerational transfer and family enterprise strategies. Ellen is an experienced problem solver with strong interpersonal skills.

Prior to joining Family Philanthropy Advisors in 1999, Ellen was a Client Advisor at a wealth management firm providing integrated financial and philanthropic services to families. Ellen specialized in next generation issues in the financial and philanthropic areas and was a key planner for client, next generation and women of wealth educational programs and family retreats.  

Ellen has served as Co-Chair and Treasurer of the Community Capital Alliance, a non-profit organization that focuses on creating community leaders for the future through philanthropic work. She is Treasurer and member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Associates of the James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota. Ellen also volunteers for the Girl Scouts of America.

Ellen has presented at the Institute for International Research's Family Office Planning and Management Forum, the Haines Center for Family Philanthropy, and the Ohio Grantmakers Forum.

Ellen graduated magna cum laude in Business Administration with a concentration in Financial Management in 1992 from The University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She received her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification in 1996.

Ellen and her husband have two children. In her free-time, Ellen and her family can be found on the ski slopes in the winter and on the lake in the summer.
